The following information was communicated to parents of Beryl Henry Elementary students on August 30, 2024, and took effect on September 4, 2024:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this letter finds you and your family well. We are writing to inform you of an essential update to our school’s student handbook designed to align more closely with the district’s policies and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

Effective: September 4, 2024

Revised Policy on Physical Altercations & Dress Code:

When a student is involved in two separate physical altercations (fights) during the school year, the case will be referred to the school board for consideration of expulsion.

This change has been made to ensure consistency across the district and to address the need for a clear and unified approach to managing physical altercations. Our primary goal is to promote a safe and respectful atmosphere within our school community. We believe this policy will help reinforce the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and adhering to our school’s expectations for behavior.

Key Points to Note:

  •  Definition of Physical Altercation: A physical altercation is an incident in which two or more individuals engage in physical contact with the intent to cause harm.

  •  Process: In the event of a physical altercation, the school will conduct a thorough investigation. If a student reaches the threshold of two such incidents, their case will be reviewed by the school board for possible expulsion.

  • Support and Intervention: We aim to help students make positive behavior choices. We will continue to offer counseling and conflict resolution resources to help prevent such incidents.

  • Dress Code: Any spandex-material clothing (biker shorts, yoga pants, leggings, etc.) must be worn with a shirt that falls mid-thigh.

We understand that changes to school policies can raise questions, and we are committed to working with families to ensure a smooth transition. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy update, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a safe and productive learning environment for all students.
