Student Guidelines for Graduation
General Instructions
1. If you do not attend graduation practice, you will not be permitted to walk in the graduation ceremony.
2. Report for the graduation lineup at 6:00 PM in the Mac foyer and hallway. DO NOT BE LATE!
3. Dress appropriately for practice.
4. No gum!
5. NO ONE ELSE will be permitted in the lineup area except for Hope faculty, staff, board members & guest speakers, and graduating seniors.
6. No cell phones! You should leave those in your car or with your parents, a family member, or friend.
7. Cap should be placed upon the head with a deep part on the back with the tassel draped over the right temple. After receiving your diploma, move the tassel to your left temple.
8. Young men should work the cap on from the front to the back of the head, ensuring your hair is concealed in front.
9. Your gown should be pressed well. They should sit nicely on the shoulder in the back and be fastened, all the way down the front.
10. Hands are placed in the lap while seated, hands open to the side while walking & standing.
11. No one will be allowed on the field to take pictures during the graduation exercises. Official graduation pictures will be taken, however, parents are welcome to come take pictures during practice.
12. No stoles, colors, sashes, collars, or cords except those presented by Hope High School or the Hope Collegiate Academy may be worn at graduation.
13. Students are not permitted to decorate the tops of their graduation caps.
Girls’ Dress
1. Jewelry - tiny hoops or stud earrings, a watch, and rings may be worn.
2. Black dress shoes --no flip flops, spike or stiletto heels. No other colors are permitted.
3. Girls should wear a dress no longer than the robe and school appropriate or you may follow the guidelines for the boys.
4. Your robe should be 11 inches from the floor with your shoes on.
5. You no longer have to wear white collars.
6. Ladies do not remove your graduation cap anytime during graduation.
Boys’ Dress
1. Wear black dress shoes, dark socks, dark trousers (black, or navy blue) and long, dark ties. Black shoes --no other colors permitted.
2. Wear a white dress shirt.
3. Your robe should be 11 inches from the floor.
4. Young men should remove cap during the National Anthem and replace it at the end.
5. Hairstyles should accommodate wearing your graduation cap.
