The importance of the role of school nurses in public education was recently emphasized in a program sponsored by Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Hope Public Schools Superintendent Bobby Hart pointed to a video created for the event as a reminder. (The video is attached.)
"Our nurses are an important part of our team," Hart said. " They are also continuing to learn and grow. Thanks to all of them for the work they do."
The Hope Public School District school nursing team of District Nurse Renee Sells, RN; and campus nurses, Geri Maxfield, LPN, Glenda Newton, RN, and Marcia Widel, RN, has been intimately involved in the development of a proposed school-based health center to be housed on the Hope High School campus. The nursing team served as a point group for public awareness of the project, the organization of the subsequent "site visit" by a team from the Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Department of Health, and the writing of a $500,000 grant proposal for the project.
