Artist in Residence Mary Overton spent the week of Nov. 18-22 working with students of Kayla White in Hope Academy of Public Service innovation classes working on the “art” of fossils. Drawing from her personal collection of fossil relics, Overton brought the science of fossilization and the artistic beauty of color, structure, line and symmetry together in a project which each student undertook representing the strata where fossilization begins in the geologic record of the Earth. Overton’s workshop was sponsored through the Artist in Residence partnership between the Hope Public Schools, the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council, and the Arkansas Arts Council. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools
