The Hempstead County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee has been active in bringing presentations related to farm life and agriculture to the Hope Public Schools throughout the year. The group, represented by Deanna Gilbert, Glynda Burkham, Doreen Antley and Mindy Lockhart recently sponsored a series of live demonstrations in beekeeping at the Hope Academy of Public Service by Hempstead County practitioner Jane Collins. Collins displayed an active cell from one of her hives which included a queen bee (marked with red) and provided honey-based food samples to students as she explained the workings of a bee colony. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools
