HOPE – The associate dean of students at Henderson State University will be featured at an Hispanic student College Opportunities Forum Jan. 17 at Hempstead Hall.\r\n
\r\nThe program, sponsored by the Hope Public Schools and its parental engagement program, is set for 6 p.m. at Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas – Hope campus.\r\n
\r\nDr. Veronikha Salazar, associate dean of students at HSU in Arkadelphia, is a native of Chiclayo, Peru, and she is president and chief executive officer of Association Rosa Barrios Llumpo, a non-profit organization serving illiterate Peruvian women.\r\n
\r\nPrior to joining the staff at HSU, Dr. Salazar was the director of Hispanic outreach and retention at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga. She served as associate director for leadership, education and development at the University of Arkansas from 2008-2011; and, she was program coordinator for international students and scholars at UA from 2001-2007.\r\n
\r\nSalazar received her Ed.D. in adult education with an emphasis in multicultural education and instructional technology from UA, and she also holds an M.Ed. in adult education from UA.\r\n
\r\nShe serves on numerous boards and committees in Arkansas and Georgia, and is an accomplished speaker in the area in the area of ethnic diversity and educational opportunity.\r\n
\r\nSalazar is the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award and NAACP Image Award, the Heroes de Corazon Award nominee for Outstanding Teacher, as well as Outstanding University Faculty/Staff honoree of the UA chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha professional educator’s fraternity.\r\n
\r\nThe event for students in grades 9-12 is free and open to the public, particularly families of Hope Public Schools Hispanic students seeking to develop college opportunities.
