Hope Academy of Public Service

HOPE – Students from the Hope Academy of Public Service presented two Bicentennial Year projects to the historical archive of the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives at Historic Washington on Jan. 11.\r\n

The projects were researched and compiled by two teams of students from the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) program at HAPS taught by Jacqueline Brady. The work is also a part of the official contents of the Hempstead County Bicentennial Time Capsule which was dedicated in ceremonies in downtown Hope in December.\r\n

\r\n

Students Edith Dominguez and Ana Alvarez developed a series of oral history interviews entitled “Learn from Yesterday, Live for Today, Hope for Tomorrow” which reflect various aspects of life in Hope and Hempstead County from the pioneer period to modern day. A Powerpoint overview entitled “Hope Schools History” by Alecia Bradley and Daniella Vega highlights aspects of the development of public education in Hope from the pioneer period to modern day.\r\n

\r\n

Copies of both projects were presented to SARA Archival Manager Melissa Nesbitt on Jan. 11 and were to also be presented to the SARA Foundation at a later date.\r\n

Both projects will also be archived on the HAPS website.\r\n
