HOPE – Students in Kristi Robbins’ sixth grade literacy classes are pushing the limit.
Thirty-four sixth grade Beryl Henry Elementary School students recently completed the first nine-week segment in Accelerated Reading and hit their goals based from Star Reading assessments.
Among those students, Makyla Snowden read her way into the Millionaire’s Club by reading 1,000,000 words in print during the nine-week period, Robbins said.
“Students each nine weeks are assigned an AR goal depending on their Star Reading level, and reading 30 minutes daily,” she said. “This nine-weeks these students had to read at least four chapter books, attain their goal of AR points, and have an average of 85 percent or above.”
Students qualifying included Makyla Snowden, Zoraida Medina, Bradley Riley, Jermiah Nolan, Freddie Adams, JaMichael Modisett, D’Aunna Golden, Janean Harris, Tyasia Muldrew, Keona Brown, and Deonte Williams.
Also, Kimberly Chavez, Yaniri Ramirez, Dakarey Welch, Azyhia Smith, Brylin Linzy, Serenity Wade, Guadalupe Dominguez, Kenia Pardo, Ania Williams, Vanessa Ruiz, Joselyn Rodriguez, Miley Biddle, and Skylar Cheatham.
