BHE Mosaic Project
\r\nBeryl Henry Elementary School sixth students of Stephanie Smelley recently completed a Roman Mosaic Art project as part of the Arts In Education program of the Hope Public Schools in conjunction with the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council. Arts in Education teacher Mary Overton, at left, presents the completed work to Smelley, center, and BHE Principal Dr. Roy Turner. The mosaic mural typifies the work found in ancient villas from the Roman Empire which featured floral art, wildlife, fish, and geometric design incorporated into a general artwork. Samya Fellows works on an apple in one frame, while Kaitlynn Drake and Oswaldo Alvarado work on a swimming goldfish. Overton worked with each sixth-grade class on specific aspects of the overall project using cut colored paper on construction paper to bring the intended subject to view. The completed mural spans a space of almost 3 x 15 feet in the BHE sixth grade hallway. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools\r\n
