Dr. David Gonzalez, acclaimed storyteller, poet, playwright and musician, brought his newest work for children of all ages “Cuentos: Tales from the Latino World” to Hempstead Hall here Thursday and thrilled more than 1,000 local youngsters from Clinton Primary School and other county schools. Using a “watch, listen and learn” technique which incorporates conversational Spanish into his storytelling and audience banter, Gonzalez maintained a teaching moment for the youngsters that left them remembering Spanish terms through characters such as the mixed up Juan Bobo and his pig. Gonzalez holds a doctorate in education from New York University School of Education, is a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department and is the author of such plays as “Finding North,” commissioned by the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools\r\n
