Chick Check
\r\nThird grade classes at Clinton Primary School became parents in a manner of speaking after eggs provided by the Hempstead County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee hatched during the Thanksgiving break. HCFB representative Doreen Antley nurtured the eggs for the students during the extended break after a COVID-19 pivot at CPS cut the classroom hatchery project short. But, Antley and Hope Public Schools Child Nutrition Director Deanna Gilbert returned with newly-hatched chicks for the students to examine and name. Each of the five participating classes selected a name for a representative chick, including Lancelot, Fluffy, Melody, Chirp and Snowflake. The eggs for the project were laid by hens hatched from eggs incubated in third grade classes at CPS last year, Antley said. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools\r\n
