The Creative Action Team School campus graduated four senior students with the Hope High School Class of 2021 in commencement exercises at Hammons Stadium on May 14.
Graduating in the Class of 2021 from CATS were Oscar Nava, Karl Williams, Ty'Kendrus Harper and Felicia Rodriguez.
The graduation ceremonies marked the return to Hammons Stadium for HHS seniors after the 2020 celebration was reduced to a virtual format because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seniors were allowed limited guest attendance, which filled the home stands for the 140-plus graduating seniors.
HHS alumnus Steven Walden, a St. Louis, Mo., based professional sports artist, gave the commencement address in a reminiscence of his 1993 graduation, recalling things he might have told his 18-year old self then.
"Figure out what you love, then get somebody to pay you to do it," Walden quipped. "Remember, there is something special about Hope that gives... hope."
