HOPE – Two Hope High School teachers have been named to a special teacher cohort from competitive applications to become High Reliability Teacher Cohort 2 trained.
\r\nHHS business/computer science teacher Sheila Hopson and HHS social studies/computer science teacher Kathy Knight were notified of their selection by Dr. Roger Guevara, Education Renewal Zone Director and Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.\r\n
\r\n“HRT Cohort2 was the most competitive round yet,” Dr. Guevara said.\r\n
\r\nHe said the group represents an elite team of educators “with a shared vision of academic excellence and a willingness to begin a journey of best academic practices” through the HRT Cohort2 program.\r\n
\r\nHHS Principal Bill Hoglund said the selection was exciting news for HHS.\r\n
\r\n“Both teachers contribute to our leadership team and provide valuable input,” Hoglund said. “I am excited to watch their growth in this endeavor. We are pleased that two Hope High School teachers were selected in a competitive process for only 25 slots available. It says a lot about our faculty at HHS.”\r\n
\r\nHopson has taught for more than 15 years, having been at HHS since 2018. Hopson was named the Hope Rotary Club Secondary Teacher of the year in 2020, serves as HHS yearbook advisor, HHS student council advisor, and is active in the Hope community, and she is an Arkansas Department of Education Computer Science Conference 2019 grantee.\r\n
\r\nHopson is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Stateline chapter Order of Eastern Star, and she is the daughter of James “Jackie” and Shirley Ogden, and the mother of Devontay “Trey” Bradshaw.\r\n
\r\nHopson graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia with a BSE and she holds an MSE in curriculum and instruction from Concordia University.\r\n
\r\nKnight is a graduate of Paris, Texas, High School and the University of Arkansas – Hope. She graduated with a BSE in social studies from Texas A&M University – Texarkana in 2006 prior to employment at HHS in 2008. Knight received an MS in history from TAMU-T in 2010.\r\n
\r\nShe taught in the NewTech Academy at HHS from 2012-2017, and has served as coach of the HHS Botcats Robotics Team since 2016.\r\n
\r\nKnight is married to Val Knight, together they have a blended family of seven children and 15 grandchildren. Knight is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma – Alpha Delta Chapter, and is active as a foster/adoptive parent trainer for The Call faith-based foster care program. She is also involved in Banner Hope, a faith-based alternative for youth in the Arkansas courts system.\r\n
