HOPE – Homecoming, 2018, at Hope High School Friday was a day of excitement and remembrance for Bobcats of all ages.\r\n

\r\n

The day capped Spirit Week across the campuses of the Hope Public School District, which ended on a Mario Brothers theme for the annual HHS Homecoming Coronation at Jones Field House.\r\n

\r\n

Eleven maids representing the ninth through twelfth grade classes at HHS were presented to the student body and public during the pageantry and fun that has become the annual coronation. Homecoming maids included Jordyne Weston, Ta’Cara Phillips, Jaleia Davis, Makayla Williams, Jaidyn Simington, Kanasia Alexander, Zahria Woods, Allysa Fincher, Zymesha Lee, Ana Bustillos, and Blessen Ward.\r\n

\r\n

Senior Bobcats Jaloni Davis, Nikorean Muldrew, Jesse Allen, Kajuan Booker, Jared McKamie, Jonathan Mendoza, Christian Lowe, Christopher Haywood, Drake Mason, Laymon Howell, Joaquin Valadez, Craig Jones and Laion Brigsby escorted the maids from the traditional entry arch and across the center court bridge to take their seats in court.\r\n

Bobcat Mascot Lizabeth Arroyo raced through a course against Mario (Kobe Watson), Luigi (Jalia Sampson), Daisy (Jahira Sampson), Peach (Emily Zimmer) and Toad (Emily Miller) as emcees Joanna Arechiga, Alaya Pearson and Justin Armstrong narrated the life-sized depiction of the popular video game “Mario Brothers.”\r\n

The Bobcat Mascot surged in the final moments to reach the royal court and selected seventeen-year old Jordyne Weston as 2018 HHS Homecoming Queen.\r\n

\r\n

“After all the stress and tears, remember it is always a great day to be a Bobcat,” Queen Jordyne told the crowd.\r\n

\r\n

The daughter of Chris Weston and Sequoiah Holston, Jordyne intends to study nursing with a minor in social work in college to become a case management nurse. She has participated in varsity cheer, FCCLA, HHS Student Council, and enjoys cooking, makeup, friends, taking photos, and “bothering the Sonic crew.”\r\n

\r\n

The Bobcat family also took a moment during the ceremonies to remember the late Cecil “C.J.” Ellis, Jr., with the presentation to Ellis’ family of a commemorative football jersey emblazoned with his name and number, and observing a moment of silence.\r\n

\r\n

The evening brought additional excitement as the HHS Bobcats defeated the Hot Springs Trojans, 26-20 in a hard-fought homecoming football game at Hammons Stadium before a near-capacity home crowd.\r\n

\r\n

Halftime was enlivened with the pageantry of the Bobcat Marching Band’s presentation of “Firebird: The Rise of a Band.” The band’s 2018 contest presentation draws upon the music of the Igor Stravinsky classic ballet “The Firebird,” the tale of the mythical Phoenix and its rise from the ashes.\r\n

The HHS Class of 2008 also presented senior Zoe Hollis with the Class of 2008 Memorial Scholarship.\r\n
