Bus Driver Mr. Washington demonstrates proper bus safety to Pre-K students. He explained that students needed to remain at least ten feet away from the bus until they were loading. He showed the students how the lights, arm, and stop signals work on a bus to alert cars that the bus was stopping and loading students.
"If you stand too close to the front of the bus, the driver can't see you," he said as he guided volunteer students in front of the bus, around the safety arm.
The children then boarded the bus and Washington explained that they must remain seated and pay attention because buses do not have seat belts. After a few moments, he drove the students around the Clinton Primary building for a brief ride.
October 17-21 is National School Bus Safety Week.
