This Week in Yerger Science News, we cover the legitimization of UFOs by science—but not in the way that you think!
Today's article, by Sid Perkins via ScienceNews.org, details how the term UFO is being abandoned and replaced by UAP (unidentified anomalous phenomena) to help remove the stigma of reporting odd or unusual sightings by pilots. This is being done to help the military by reporting odd aircraft that might be foreign in origin (such as the Chinese balloon that was spotted last year) and to help science observe weather and celestial events that science has had little chance to study due to their rarity. This name change is intended to separate the idea of reporting unidentified airborne objects and phenomena from the stigma of aliens and conspiracy theories that the term "UFO" carries.
This fantastic article goes into great detail, far more than can be put into a summary such as this. Please go to Science News to read the article in full.
