HOPE – The superintendent of the Hope Public Schools issued a letter to school employees and parents Thursday outlining the district’s reliance upon state health officials in its response to the COVID-19 virus presence in Arkansas.
\r\nHPS Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hart said credible information regarding the illness is available from the Arkansas Department of Health.\r\n
\r\n“We encourage you to get information from credible sources,” Dr. Hart’s letter states. “The Arkansas Department of Health publishes daily updates online.”\r\n
\r\nHart also recommended parents refer to the ADH Call Center at 800-803-7847 for questions.\r\n
\r\n“Our district has not been given any information regarding any students and/or staff being exposed to the virus,” he said. “The Hope Public Schools monitors and follows recommendations from the Arkansas Health Department and the Arkansas Department of Education to ensure we are protecting our students and staff.”\r\n
\r\nArkansas Department of Education guidance issued Thursday made clear the ADE and ADH will be responsible for decisions regarding school closings.\r\n
\r\n“The two agencies will work jointly to provide guidance to districts based on developments in local communities,” the ADE said.\r\n
\r\nHart said HPS employees, students and parents should continue to take preventative measures, including:\r\n
\r\n--Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth.\r\n
\r\n--Cover coughs and sneezes; cough into you elbow.\r\n
\r\n--Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.\r\n
\r\n--Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.\r\n
\r\n--If ill, stay home.\r\n
