Magnet Coordinator Allison Rowe and Mr. Herron, HAPS Digital Broadcasting Magnet teacher, recently took students on an exciting educational visit to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. The students had the opportunity to tour the university's broadcasting studio, where they learned about the advanced equipment, broadcasting software, and how to organize a professional broadcast. During the visit, they engaged with college students in the broadcasting program and even had the chance to film HAPS' daily newscast for the following day, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world studio environment. The visit was highly informative, and we are incredibly grateful to Henderson State University for sharing their time and insights with us. The students behaved exceptionally well, answering specific technology-related questions and actively participating in discussions. Thanks to Mr. Herron’s preparation, they are more than ready for their “jobs” on the HAPS campus after demonstrating both skill and professionalism throughout the tour.

Fifth graders from Hope Academy of Public Service recently visited CertainTeed and Weyerhaeuser in connection to a unit on manufacturing in Social Studies classes. They had a presentation that included blasting to get the gypsum out of the mine. Students also got a chance to explore samples of gypsum and stucco and learned how gypsum is used to make drywall. They were also shown the tools and devices used to meet quality standards. Students were given swag bags before leaving. They had lunch at Daisy State Park, then headed to Weyerhaeuser in Dierks. At Weyerhaeuser, students heard a presentation detailing the complicated process of turning logs into 2X4s and other lumber. Each student received a shirt, a wallet/safety kit, headphones, a stress ball, and more. Both companies were welcoming and happy to explain their manufacturing process to teachers and students. They also discussed career opportunities and salaries. Students had a blast, and several expressed an interest in engineering. Thanks to Ms. Strong for planning this trip for our students and CertainTeed and Weyerhauser for making it an amazing experience! #college&careerreadybobcats

Hope Public Schools is excited to announce its Aspiring Leaders Fellowship Cohort 2 participants! The fellowship is a two-year program that focuses on growing Hope Public School leaders to ensure that our school district has effective leaders who embrace change in a way that affects the hearts and minds of our stakeholders through empowerment, motivation, and ownership. Additionally, the program offers work-based opportunities for participants to develop new leadership skills based on capacity building that is low on “the blame game” and "high on support" through effective articulation of the rationale for change and work collaboratively in implementing prioritized needs in a way that is appropriate and beneficial to all stakeholders. The participants will be exposed to and apply new leadership skills provided through targeted leadership work-based learning opportunities and experiences.
